THE REACTIONS CONFIRMED THE MACHINATION.
By Bala Ibrahim.
It is no longer news that PMB was in Borno state yesterday, to condole and commiserate with the people, over the unpleasant Boko Haram activities, particularly the incident in the town of Auno, last Sunday. What is news however, is the speed with which the visit exposed the planners of the premeditated perversity, and their characterized contrariness.
For starters, here is an excerpt from the reactions:
BUHARI BOOED?
“I read this news on daily trust. Online. Watched same on AIT. To confirm it, I placed a call to a colleague in Maiduguri.
He told me what happened. He was in Ramat Polytechnic. APC members were on the bridge and hailing the president.
Another crowd of PDP members numbering 50 were on the road side booing.
He even narrated to me how same PDP people booed Gov Zullum about the Auno incidence.
This is the exact situation. And this is normal in all situations.
But at least, the president was able to feel the pulse of the people. First hand information.
I am certain before the next week runs out, something new will happen.
May God bless and protect Nigeria”-Sen. Abdurahaman Abubakar.
The naive may not see or understand the phototrick, which would have shown that, the viral video is a shot of just one particular spot, where the sponsored crowd was stationed. But all the same, the president must not loose sight of the message, which is the need to change.
Indeed, all discerning minds have been calling on the president to be more circumspect on the issue of security, particularly those he assigned the portfolio of overseeing the collection of intelligence, as well as the unending extension of tenure for the service chiefs.
Much as some are of the opinion that removing the service chiefs at a time like this, could send wrong signal, others feel retaining them beyond their stipulated period, has the potential of propelling more problems to the people and the personnel with them. In any case, some say, if removing them is likely to create problems, but retaining them has not solved the problems.
What is most visible is the conception of constant and consistent complaint from within and without, about them being something of a spent force. Even the House of Representatives was supportive of the idea of changing the chiefs.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the House asked the President to declare a state of emergency on security, as well as carry out investigation into the reported low morale of frontline troops in the North east, a situation that cannot be detached from the loss of confidence of the boys, on the performing ability of their chiefs.
Like the president, the lawmakers lamented the killing of over 30 travelers in Auno on Sunday by insurgents, insisting that a drastic action to curtail the trend had become more than imperative. This is to say, they want the president to act not later than immediately.
But would the president heed the call? Here again is another excerpt from the reactions:
–“PMB should know that the current security situation is more political than insurgency. In fact, it puzzles me when I remember that he once declared that his Government knows the sponsors of the insurgency and yet he did nothing. The announcement and his inability to take the right action speak much about how faulty his decision making process is. Nigerians will support him if he chose to deal ruthlessly with the sponsors, because it was one of the reason for people’s fanatical support to him. When you are dealing with such evil people and murderers, what you need is NOT to follow due processes but to execute necessary processes. I pray that he will find the courage to pay his fanatical supporters and all Nigerians, by taking the right measures to save their lives and give them the right to life and dignity that they deserve”.
Another excerpt from the reactions came with hausa maxims, which underscored the importance of the president doing the needful, before the situation becomes dreadful.
–“Mallam Bala, I can understand your point of view. However, bahaushe yace “Sai bango ya tsage K’adangare ke samun wurin buya” It will be more helpful to the C in C ‘s courtiers to act proactively by identifying the cracks on the wall and cementing same in good time. That way, whenever the lizard comes around, it will depart immediately or else the courtiers will bring it down”.
PMB came to power under the slogan of change, but I noticed he is extremely reluctant, when it comes to change, particularly the change of style in strategy. This has been the bane behind the Buhari bashing, and critically key to the ceaseless complot.
While in Maiduguri, the President sought the cooperation of community leaders in order to end the insurgency in the northeast. “This Boko Haram or whatever they are, cannot come up to Maiduguri or environs without the local leadership knowing. Because traditionally the local leadership is in charge of security in their areas. So, with my understanding of our culture, I wonder how Boko Haram survives up to this end”.
While I pray the president would take cue from the Borno visit, to effect changes in the security architecture, I have the valor of concluding with another reaction, which is a bit sarcastic to the bought, booing Borno brothers.
Next time Boko Haram sukazo, kuce musu “bamayi bamayi”.
